We are Newton Mearns Islamic Centre, formerly known as East Ren Centre. We have provided a place of worship for the Muslim community of Newton Mearns since being established in 2011. As the needs of the Muslim community continue to grow, so too have the services we provide.
We are committed to the highest standards of data protection. We are a data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). We are registered as a data controller under reference ZB624613. WE are also a registered charity.
We believe it is important to be open and transparent about how we use your personal data. We have adequate safeguards in place to protect hour personal data. If you have any questions about our data protection practices, please contact us by email on info@nmic.co.uk.
The type of personal data we process depends on the reason why your personal data was obtained. In most cases you are likely to have provided the personal data yourself. If you are under the age of 18, it is possible your personal data was provided by a parent/carer.
We process your personal data in accordance with the data protection principles. They are:

For Young People, we may hold information where there has been a safeguarding concern, this may include basic personal identifiers along with the details of the case. We may capture information on Young People who attend any events managed by NMIC, this may include details on dietary and accessibility requirements. Events may include educational lectures, seminars, counselling, madrassah/maktab lessons, and youth club. Your best interests always remain our primary concern.
We benefit from those who give their time, offer their knowledge, skills and experience by volunteering and supporting NMIC deliver its aims and objectives.
We hold personal data (including special category data) about volunteers on our volunteer database. Information we hold about you may include the following:
• Name and contact details
• details of training you receive
• details of your experience, qualifications, occupation, skills and any awards you have received
• details of next of kin
• age/date of birth
• details of any health conditions
• details of disclosure checks/PVG Membership; and
• any complaints we have received about you
We need this information to communicate with you and to carry out any necessary checks to make sure that you can work with vulnerable groups who may be using our services.
Much of this information is collected from you when you register an interest in becoming a volunteer.
We use Google Forms but may also use similar service providers. For information about Google data protection practices you may wish to refer to its Privacy Policy.
We benefit from donations from members of the public who support our work, and we hold personal data about these donors so that we can process donations, and tell donors about our work and campaigns and how they can support us further. This may include details of donors that wish to leave a legacy in their Will or for tax purposes such as GiftAid.
We use CCTV for security and safeguarding purposes. CCTV images are automatically deleted after [period]. CCTV does not record audio. Images may be retained for longer in the event of an incident and may be shared with insurance providers, legal advisors, law enforcement, the local authority as determined reasonable and appropriate by NMIC or where there is a legal obligation to do so.
We use your personal data in order to deliver services in accordance with our aims and objectives. This includes delivering on our charitable objectives. These may include:
• Provision of cultural and religious events
• Provision of training and education
• Provision of safeguarding services
• Provision of hospitality for guests such as visiting scholars and others
• Provision of youth services
• Provision of counselling services
• Provision of matrimonial services
• Provision of prayer facilities
• Provision of elderly befriending/social club
We may also process personal data where it is necessary in order to comply with legal and regulatory requirements. This may include for example, GiftAid requirements.
We may process your personal data for the lawful reasons including:

Where we rely upon consent, it may be withdrawn.

Where international transfer of data occurs sufficient safeguards are in place. These may include transfer under Adequacy Decisions, standard contract clauses and the ICO Addendum, the UK-USA data bridge (or equivalent).
We do not retain your personal data for longer than necessary. In most cases this means we retain your personal data for the period you are using the services provided by us.
Your personal data will not be used for any automated decision making without access to human intervention.
